My Go-To Hair Products

Being a busy mom, spending lots and lots of time caring for and styling my hair isn’t really realistic, but that’s not to say that I don’t want my hair looking its best! Having healthy hair with a minimal routine is actually doable with just a few hair essentials. Today I wanted to share some of my tried and true hair products that are staples in my simple hair care routine!

One :: A good sulfate free shampoo is a must, and this is my absolute favorite. It makes my hair so soft and also protects my color.

Two :: This conditioner is not only so incredibly moisturizing, but it also leaves my hair almost completely tangle free (which as my hair is very tangle prone this is super impressive).

Three :: I don’t curl my hair every day (avoiding using heat on my hair every day helps keep it healthy), but when I do want to style it this curling iron is great. It gives me such smooth curls that really last.

Four :: This is the holy grail of hair oils. I’ve tried several others and they all leave my hair feeling limp and greasy. This one leaves my hair soft and smooth without any greasy residue.

Five :: Every mom must have a good dry shampoo in her beauty arsenal. This one does a great job of freshening up second (or third) day hair.

Six :: This dries my hair super quickly, plus it also uses negative ions to prevent frizz and maintain shine.

Seven :: My hair tangles incredibly easy, and this brush is an absolute lifesaver for me. It easily and painlessly removes all tangles without damaging my hair.

Eight :: I don’t use hairspray regularly, but when I do this is my go to. It doesn’t leave my hair crunchy or sticky, and I love that its unscented.

Nine :: I’ve heard that you should always put a leave in conditioner in your hair to keep it as healthy as possible. What I love about this one is that it also includes a thermal protection as well to protect from heat when styling.

Ten :: This leaves my hair feeling so incredibly soft, smooth, and shiny without weighing it down.

I am a creature of habit when it comes to my hair and tend to get stuck in a rut. I also don’t find most up-dos to be particularly flattering on me (I have a large forehead!) and severely pulled back styles do me no favors. However, with the heat wave we are currently having here in Boise I feel most comfortable with my hair up, but still want to wear it in a way that is flattering for me. I LOVE the messy bun/tendrils look that Meghan Markle frequently wears – it’s that perfect balance of chic, yet effortless. And the loose pieces combined with a bit of volume at the scalp keeps the style looking soft and flattering around the face. Best yet – it is so simple and literally takes minutes to do (and I am someone who is hopeless with creating up-dos)! Second day hair is best for creating this look as your hair will have a bit more texture and volume.

With summer in full swing, I wanted to share a few of my favorite, must have beauty products! I am religious about sun protection, so I always keep a little pouch of a few necessities in my purse or beach bag so I can re-apply sun protection and freshen up a bit on these hot summer days. Although I keep my skin protected, between the heat and chlorine in swimming pools, my hair suffers quite a bit during the summer. To try to counteract this, I always make sure to use protection sprays and lots of conditioning treatments. Pureology Hydrate is my absolute favorite shampoo/conditioner combo – it is incredibly hydrating and the conditioner even tingles a bit on your scalp which I love.

I’ve recently started using natural deodorants here and there, and I love the rose scent of this one. But for very hot days when I will be outside a long time, and for exercise – this clinical strength is the best I’ve used. Trader Joe’s has the most amazing sunscreen (consumer reports even gave it a perfect score) plus it is super affordable (I buy multiples whenever I go).

During the summer, I hate wearing heavy makeup, and tend to go either barefaced, or with this light BB Cream. I always apply a sunscreen of at least 50 SPF, and this one is my absolute favorite for layering under makeup. This mini Drunk Elephant kit has some products I absolutely love, especially the D-Bronzi to add a little glow on days I don’t wear makeup. A little spritz of rosewater facial spray with aloe is so refreshing after being out on a hot day.

I tend to get in a rut with my hair and style it the same way every day, but all of the cute on-trend accessories have really been encouraging me to branch out a bit and try out some new styles. All of these styles are so simple, yet just add a little something extra which is perfect for a busy mom on the go!

One thing I love about Idaho is experiencing the four seasons, including winter. I’m always so excited for the first snow and the start of ski season, and I do genuinely enjoy the cold…for a few months that is. It’s at about this time every year, where I really just start to feel “over” winter and am so ready for spring. We’ve had an onslaught of snow and colder than normal temperatures over the past week, which is starting to get to me a bit. Today I’m sharing some ways to help feel your best to help get through these (hopefully) last weeks of winter!

HYDRATE

I do find its harder to drink enough water when its cold outside, and I prefer hot drinks like coffee (which is super dehydrating). I love sparkling water which helps me increase the amount of water I drink, and an infuser to flavor water can also help encourage fluid intake.

MOISTURIZE

My skin really struggles in the winter, so I really try to take the time to give it a little extra TLC. Hyaluronic acid helps the skin by working as a magnet for moisture and helps your cells retain as much as possible. I apply hyaluronic acid nightly, along with a moisturizer, and often include an extra hydrating step like a sheet or sleep mask. And even though it is winter, don’t forget to wear your sunscreen! I also make sure to moisturize my whole body with a quality moisturizer, and for my feet an extra rich moisturizer. My hair also tends to get very dry, so I add moroccan argan oil daily, and use a deep conditioning treatment 1-2 times per week.

EXERCISE

I love running, but it’s very hard for me to continue to run regularly in the coldest part of winter. Of course warm clothes help, but sometimes I just find it too miserable to run. When I lose motivation to run due to the weather, I try to ski as often as I can and even just increase my walking as much as possible. An indoor fitness program can be a great option, or even just taking time for yoga or stretching.

EAT WELL

Rich, heavy comfort foods are really tempting during the winter, and it is super easy to pack on the pounds. Finding the balance of having warm foods that are still light and healthy (like broth based soups with vegetables), will help you feel your best! I also try to make kale smoothies several times a week. A vitamin D supplement is also very important during the winter!

TREAT YOURSELF

Treating myself some warm and cozy loungewear helps cheer me up a bit when I feel trapped indoors. My feet are constantly cold as well, so warm slippers and aloe infused socks are a nice treat.
