About Me

Hi! My name is Brooke and I'm a wife, mother to two sweet boys, runner, foodie, and a confessed shoe addict. This space is where I share a bit about motherhood, fashion, my life in Idaho, and things that inspire me. Thanks for being here!

March 3rd. It’s been exactly one year since our lives were changed forever. I’ve thought a lot about how to observe this day once it came again. On one hand, I would love to ignore it because this day brought the kind of tremendous pain, loss and grieving that no parent can ever prepare themselves for. I would be lying if I didn’t admit how difficult this year has been and there have been some incredibly hard days. But on the other hand, I wanted to approach this day much as I’ve tried to approach Evan’s brain injury. There’s no question he got dealt a really horrible, unfair hand. But nobody ever said life would be easy and when life is cruel and unfair - the only choice you have is in how you want to keep going. You can allow yourself to become a victim of life’s unfair circumstances...or you can become a fighter and a survivor. You can resign yourself to simply being someone who suffered a sad story...or you can become a warrior and tell your story of how you overcame. You can allow yourself to succumb to hopelessness and despair...or you can dig deep to find the courage to keep going. Nobody accomplishes great things by giving up when life knocks you down. But the person who refuses to give up can make the impossible happen. Evan has shown his warrior heart day after day after day, and he continues to fight incredibly hard every single day for his recovery. He is not a victim - he is an inspiration, a fighter, and a hero. So today we are celebrating our little warrior and our gratitude to God for giving him a second chance at life. There will still be hard days to come and a very long road ahead, but one thing is certain. We will never give up. #avmsurvivor #aneurysmsurvivor #strokesurvivor #braininjuryawarenessmonth #braininjury #warrior
Evan’s name means “young warrior” and we couldn’t have chosen a more perfect name for him. Almost exactly one year ago he suffered a massive brain hemorrhage due to a rare blood vessel malformation called an AVM. He was left unable to walk or talk, and his right side was completely paralyzed. With hours of daily therapies and tons of hard work he is once again regaining his vocabulary and speaking in full sentences, learning to walk in a walker, and regaining movement on his right side. When Evan suffered his stroke, I knew immediately what it was and was somewhat brushed off by the ER doctor who told me a stroke would be “highly unlikely.” Children can and do suffer strokes more often than people realize, and we hope to bring awareness to AVMs to save lives and hopefully improve research efforts. #rarediseaseday #rarediseaseawarenessday #avmawareness #avmsurvivor #aneurysmsurvivor

Pure joy today 💚 This little sweetheart turned 6 years old and as we enter this new year I feel so much gratitude for Evan’s life and determined spirit, and immense hope that Evan’s best days are still ahead. Making it through this challenging year to celebrate this day was truly a special gift.
‘Twas the night before Christmas ✨ Wishing you a very merry Christmas!!! #christmaseve #merrychristmas
In love with our Christmas photos & Evan’s squinty little face he insisted on making the whole session ❤️ 📷: @jenny_leigh_photography #christmas #familyiseverything
